Asset Building for Police
Thrive! The Canadian Centre for Positive Youth Development is commited to supporting Police Officers as we expand the concept of Asset-Based Policing to reach communities across the country.
Police as Community Asset-Building Partners

Policing agencies are a logical partner as we work toward a coordinated network of community Asset Building partners due to their focus on creating and maintaining safe and orderly communities.  Youth have been identified as a national priority by both the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Chiefs of Police and engaging youth through Asset Building is recognized as a positive and productive strategy.

NEW RESOURCE FOR POLICE SERVICES!
Breaking With the Law - The Story of Positive Tickets

by Ward Clapham, Former Superintendent of Richmond RCMP

Positive Tickets is a program where you catch kids doing good things and reward them with a voucher or coupon to some fun, free activity.  The pupose of Positive Tickets is to build relationships of trust with youth in your community  and encourage good behaviour.  Former Superintendanent of Richmond, British Columbia RCMP Ward Clapham explains that the ticket is simply the gateway to the relationship.

The book is divided into two sections.  In the first section, Clapham shares his inspirational journey from being a typical cop "hunting" criminals to an officer who 'hunts" for good behaviour as a way to prevent crime from ever happening.  His unique perspective on the power of preventive, proactive law enforcement initiatives is illustrated through stories, quotes, and visuals.

In the second section, Clapham outlines a simple, step-by-step process for implementing the Positive Tickets program in other communities:

Step 1: Set Up
Step 2: Roll Out
Step 3: Maintain
